Wiring a volt toggle switch involves cutting the wire that powers the accessory and attaching either end to the terminals of the switch. When the toggle switch has three terminals, make sure one of the wires attaches to the center terminal and the second to either of the two remaining terminals. Before beginning installation of a toggle switch or other electronic component on a volt system, the individual should disconnect the power from the system. For most automobiles, the easiest way to accomplish this is by disconnecting the battery terminal. Once the power is disconnected, installers should consult the vehicle's wiring diagram to determine the appropriate wire for installing the switch.

A toggle switch is an electrical component that controls the flow of electricity through a circuit by means of a mechanical lever that is manually controlled. Though toggle switches come in several varieties, in their simplest form, they're essentially on-off switches for whatever circuit they're wired to. Usually, toggle switches are installed in devices that lack a pre-existing means for regulating an add-on's operation. There are three basic types of light switches used in the home: single-pole, 3-way, and 4-way switches. The single-pole switch is used when one or more lights are to be controlled from a single location. The 3-way switch is used in pairs when one or more lights are to be controlled from two locations.
